Informal Clothing at Schools: Who Said What?

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to describe teachers’, students’ and parents’ opinions based on their own expressions about non-uniform dressing practices at schools that was put into effect in the 2013-14 academic year. It is a qualitative case study. Study group consists of 10 teachers, 10 parents and 10 students from two different high schools in Sivas. An open ended question was asked to those 30 participants of the study and data were analyzed via content analysis, descriptive analysis and constant comparison techniques. So the themes and categories were produced accordingly. After the data analysis, research findings were presented under four headings as participants’ positive/negative views about free clothing, teachers’ views about free clothing, students’ views about free clothing, and parents’ views about the free clothing at schools. After the analysis, nine themes and 35 categories were identified for the teachers. As for the students and parents, 18 themes and 44 categories were identified for each group. Results show that all participants (teachers, students and parents) have expressed negative opinions about the new applications in general.
