Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between initiative taking levels and self-efficacy levels of the state elementary school principals in Turkey. 381 randomly selected principals participated to the relational descriptive research from İstanbul, Çanakkale, İzmir, Eskişehir, Konya, Antalya, Kayseri, Samsun, Trabzon, Kars, Van, and Şanlıurfa. Date were collected through Personal Initiative Measurement Tool for School Principals and Principals’ Sense of Efficacy Scale. The research was supported by Ministry of National Education – Education Research and Development Directorate. Results show that there is a positive and significant relationship between initiative taking and self-efficacy levels of principals. Three dimensions of principals’ self-efficacy predict their taking initiative in the dimensions of self-starting, proactivity and persistency. Findings were discussed in light of literature and suggestions made for practice.
