Abstract

This study reveals empirical data from the implementation of a Model by the Character Learning Project (PBK) which is positioned as one of the models of Strengthening Character Education (PPK) in class subjects like Civics, Social Studies subjects, and science subjects. The study is conducted on High Schools in Sukabumi and Garut, involving 800 students, 20 teachers, and 5 principals. The study examines the gap between public expectation of the school to educate and model students into holistic people with intellectual maturity, good attitude and behavior, given the fact that the education process in schools still focuses on the development of the cognitive aspect (low taxonomic) with the ultimate goal of passing exams. Therefore, this study focuses on the school's efforts in becoming a good character moulding institution and its impact on students’ character as an authentic learner. Implementation of the model begins with training of teachers and principals, implementation of the model in schools, mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation. The peak of the activity is the action of developing intelligent character, caring character, honest character, and strong character through students show-casing character development. During the program the development of student characters in each model class is observed, quantitatively measured, and qualitatively described.
