Abstract

Women have played a significant role in shaping both Medieval and modern Indian history. In Medieval times, women held positions of power as rulers, poets, and scholars, challenging traditional gender roles. Despite barriers, many made notable contributions to art, literature, and politics. In modern Indian history, women have continued to break boundaries, advocating for gender equality, education, and political representation. Their resilience and determination have made a lasting impact on Indian society, paving the way for future generations of women to thrive and succeed in all aspects of life. This paper examines the status of women in India from the medieval period to the present day, focusing on the continuity, changes, and efforts towards amelioration. The study employs a historical-comparative methodology, utilizing a combination of primary sources, secondary literature, and Policy analysis. Findings indicate significant shifts in the socio-economic, cultural, and political status of women, with ongoing challenges and progressive policy directions for further improvement.
