The role of internal environmental audit in the evaluation of the environmental management system: The Case of Mitidja Cement Institution Blida, Algeria

Abstract
The study aims to highlight the importance of environmental internal audit in the organisation and its role in evaluating the environmental management system. In order to try to apply the theoretical study, we have taken the cement company Mitidja as a case study to understand the different aspects of the topic through field visits to the organisation. Regarding the tools of the field study, the interview, observation, questionnaires and analysis of various documents and data related to the studied organisation were used, using the descriptive and analytical approach.
The study concluded that environmental internal audit is an important tool to ensure the organisation's compliance with environmental laws and regulations and the validity of the procedures it has adopted to protect the environment. It aims to evaluate the environmental management system and identify the strengths and weaknesses of this system in order to assess its effectiveness, with the aim of protecting the organisation from legal penalties and fines resulting from the violation of environmental laws due to pollution from its activities.
