According to the Teachers’ Opinions the Relationship between the Ethical leadership Behaviors of the Elementary School Principals and their Conflict Management Strategies

Abstract

In this study it has been tried to establish whether there is a relationship between ethical leadership behaviors of school principals, conflict resolution strategies, ethical leadership approach and ethical leadership with ethical leadership behaviors according to the opinion of the teachers. The research is the relational survey method. The target population of the study consisted of 1195 teachers working in public primary schools in 2012-2013 academic year in the center of Batman. The entire target population was tried to reach but sampling was not taken. 86% of the target population has been reached. Scale of ethical leadership and conflict management strategies have been used for collecting the data. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient have been used in the analysis of the data. In the study teachers stated that managers show a high level of ethical leadership behavior. The opinion of teachers related to ethical leadership behavior and conflict management strategies has varied according to gender and their seniority. According to teachers’ views, school principals implement the integration most as conflict management strategies and respectively compromise, avoidance and rule strategies. A significant, positive, moderate correlation was found between the integration and compromise strategies of ethical leadership behavior and conflict management strategies. Yet, a significant, positive but low correlation was found between ethical leadership behavior and avoidance strategy. A significant but negative and low correlation was found between ethical leadership behavior and rule management.
