University Students’ View About Concept of ‘A New University’

Abstract

The study aims to determine university students’ views about advantages, disadvantages of a new university and students’ expectations and suggestions to realize these expectations. For this aim an open ended questionnaire form applied to 579 university students attending to Faculty of Education, Engineering and Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Bayburt University. According to data, most of the students stated the advantages of their new university as having modern physical possibilities (new classrooms, laboratories etc.), having young university staff etc. On the other side, they stated the disadvantages as inadequately of social activities, being unfamiliar with university, insufficient facilities in the city etc. It is remarkable that most of the students have the understanding of a newly constructed university naturally has some main problems. At the end of the study, there are suggestions that to enhance quality of universities.
