Main Article Content
Abstract
This study investigates community engagement strategies aimed at promoting inclusivity within the child welfare schemes implemented by the Chennai Corporation. In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the need to ensure that government programs targeting children from marginalized communities are accessible and effective. In Chennai, despite the existence of various welfare schemes, disparities persist, particularly among vulnerable groups such as low-income families, Dalits, and tribal communities. This research aims to address these disparities by exploring innovative approaches to community engagement.
The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews, focus group discussions, and quantitative surveys. Key stakeholders including government officials, community leaders, parents, and children are involved in the research process to gather diverse perspectives. Through thematic analysis, the qualitative data elucidate the existing challenges and opportunities for inclusivity in child welfare schemes. Additionally, the quantitative surveys provide insights into the effectiveness of different engagement strategies and their impact on participation and outcomes.
The findings highlight the importance of tailored approaches to community engagement, considering the unique socio-cultural context of Chennai. Strategies such as participatory decision-making, capacity-building workshops and culturally sensitive communication methods emerge as promising practices. Furthermore, the study evaluates the role of technology in enhancing inclusivity, particularly in reaching marginalized communities with limited access to traditional channels. This study contributes to the development of evidence-based recommendations for Chennai Corporation and other stakeholders involved in child welfare programming. By fostering greater inclusivity through community engagement, policymakers can ensure that every child, regardless of background, has equitable access to essential services and opportunities for a brighter future.
