Understanding the scale, growth, and regional variations in urbanization levels is crucial as we strive for rapid economic growth, job creation, improved urban living standards, and a sustainable environment. It is essential to position our cities as drivers for the structural transformation of the Indian economy. To ensure effective project implementation, the Central Government should enhance its oversight of project progress and implement necessary reforms. As economic growth occurs, there is typically a shift from agriculture to manufacturing and services, leading to increased urbanization. However, for urbanization to positively impact the economy, challenges in physical and civic infrastructure must be addressed. The urban population can play a pivotal role in India's economic growth, provided we alleviate the strain on city systems.
