Teachers’ Awareness towards Green School Practices and Sustainable Development in Kerala

Abstract
School is a social institution which specifically designed for imparting knowledge and inculcating desirable values like environmental ethics to the younger ones. Making our schools more eco-friendly is one of the most important challenges faced by the twenty first century. In order to meet these challenges we must design sustainable societies that must embrace a new way of seeing the school system. Teachers play a pivotal role in implementing green school initiatives and fostering sustainability. This study explores the awareness of teachers in Kerala regarding green school practices and their contribution to sustainable development. The research was conducted at two districts of secondary schools in Kerala. The research method was carried out with a quantitative approach with a questionnaire-based survey of 100 secondary school teachers. The study examined the awareness of secondary teachers on green school practices and its role in sustainable development and it also focus on the challenges faced by teachers in promoting green school practices. The findings reveal high awareness levels but highlight barriers such as inadequate resources and training. Recommendations are given to enhance teacher engagement and promote green school practices.
