Traditional Games: Sustainable Solution For Sensitizing Students Towards Environment
Main Article Content
Abstract
The necessity for efficient methods to increase awareness among the younger generation has been highlighted by the speed at which environmental degradation and climate change are occurring. With their strong cultural roots, traditional games can provide a special, long-lasting way to raise kids' awareness of environmental preservation. These games have innated ecological wisdom that can be used to create environmental consciousness in an enjoyable, engaging, and significant way. They are frequently created to encourage community involvement and connect people with nature. The potential of traditional games as a tool for environmental education is investigated in this study. Folk dances, regional sports, and outdoor pursuits are examples of games that frequently illustrate the mutually beneficial link between people and the environment. They provide an opportunity for experiential learning by encouraging physical exercise, teamwork, and knowledge of natural resources.
Students learn about sustainability and cultural practices that prioritize environmental stewardship by re-examining classic games. Games that mimic natural cycles or simulate resource management, for instance, can help players better comprehend ideas like waste reduction, biodiversity, and conservation. Additionally, by providing a forum for intergenerational discussion, these games help preserve indigenous knowledge about sustainable living while fostering communication between younger and older generations. The study emphasizes the value of bringing back and incorporating old games into modern environmental education frameworks, providing a comprehensive strategy that blends sustainability objectives with cultural heritage. Traditional games can be transformed into an entertaining and successful way to raise students' awareness of the pressing need for sustainable practices and environmental preservation.
