Abstract
Education prepares young people to be adaptive to the times. Education moves to develop human potential through guidance, teaching, training and internalization of character values. History teaching in Indonesia is still struggling with the demands of memorizing materials with a wide scope without any implementation relevant to the needs of the 21st century. Teaching history by the rote method will only preserve mute culture. This study aims to develop a humanistic teaching design in the 21st century to restore the dignity of history teaching that can humanize human beings. It is a library study with a qualitative method and a descriptive analysis approach. The results reveal that each component of education has a major contribution to encouraging the application of humanist history teaching. The educational components include students who are actively involved in the learning process, educators who can encourage students to develop all their potential, a curriculum that internalizes humanism values, learning contexts based on contextual problems and character values, teaching methods that attract students' learning interests, and adequate facilities.
