The Analytical Study Of The Beliefs And Traditions Of Worshiping The Chaiyawan Ancient City In The Kok Pho Chai Community, Kok Pho Chai District, Khon Kaen Province

Abstract
This research aimed to 1) investigate the history and origins of the Chaiyawan ancient city in the Kok Pho Chai community, Kok Pho Chai District, Khon Kaen Province; 2) study the beliefs and traditions of worshiping the Chaiyawan ancient city in the same community; and 3) analyze these beliefs and traditions. This qualitative study involved field research, including in-depth interviews with 21 key informants, and data analysis through descriptive methods.
The research results were as follows:
History and Origins: Chaiyawan ancient city spans two historical periods. The earlier
period features inscriptions from the Dvaravati era, while the later one from around the 14th century showcases Mon language inscriptions, reflecting a lifestyle primarily focused on agriculture, animal husbandry, and handicrafts. Beliefs and Traditions: The community holds a deep reverence for the sacredness of the
ancient city, which acts as a spiritual anchor and promotes social cohesion and ethical living. These beliefs are pivotal in maintaining community unity and preserving moral and ethical standards.
Analysis of Beliefs and Traditions: The community diligently preserves the ancient city
as a sacred site believed to house divine forces. Traditions such as the ceremonial watering of the
Phracao Yai Chaiyawan statue are thought to bring physical and spiritual relief and instill a sense of cultural heritage pride among the youth.
